Netsanet Zenaneh Mekonnen (Hebrew: × ×¦× ×ª ×ž×§×•× ×Ÿâ€Ž; born July
7, 1988) is an Ethiopian-born Israeli film, television and theater
actress.Mekonnen was born in Addis Ababa, the capital city of
Ethiopia, to a Christian mother and a half-Jewish father. She is one
of six siblings. When she was two, her mother left to the United
States, and her father subsequently immigrated to Israel, when she was
about four years old. In 1994, at the age of six, she and her sister
Bitania joined him, and converted to Judaism.Her father was very
successful in Ethiopia, and well-regarded professionally. This was far
from the case in Israel. After three years as a single parent, he,
too, left for the United States, hoping to find his wife there, and to
make a new life as a journalist. Mekonnen, now in the third grade,
found herself in a "pnimia" â€" a type of boarding school for at-risk
youth, or thse from broken families.
