Edward Stanelli de Groot (16 June 1895 â€" 12 February 1961), commonly
known as just Stanelli, was an Irish actor, musician and composer. He
is best known for his appearance in the 1949 film The Adventures of
Jane.Stanelli was born in Dublin and studied at the Royal Academy of
Music, London, where he was awarded the James Tubbs and Sons Prize for
his violin playing in 1909.Stanelli became a conductor and composer,
and his work Atlantis was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra
and the Hallé Orchestra in 1946, which sometimes he conducted. He
later began a comedic double-act called Stanelli and Edgar. He
continued solo working for the BBC from 1935. His Hornchestra was
popular with radio audiences, and he made his television debut in
April 1937.He appeared in and composed the soundtrack for Greek Street
(1930) and The Adventures of Jane (1949). He also acted in the films
Hearts of Humanity (1936), Old Mother Riley Overseas (1943), and Dear
Mr. Prohack (1949), all in small bit-parts.
