Tim Matheson (born Timothy Lewis Matthieson; December 31, 1947) is an
American actor and director. He is perhaps best known for his
portrayals of the smooth-talking Eric "Otter" Stratton in the comedy
film National Lampoon's Animal House (1978) and of Vice President John
Hoynes in the NBC drama The West Wing, which earned him 2 Primetime
Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama
Series.Matheson has had a variety of other well-known roles, including
the voice role of the lead character in the animated series Jonny
Quest 1964â€"1965, and President Ronald Reagan in the 2019 TV movie
Killing Reagan.Matheson was born in Glendale, California, a suburb of
Los Angeles, the son of Sally and Clifford Matthieson, a training
pilot. He served a tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps
