actress, singer, dancer and cabaret artist.Pearl Lillian Hobson was
born on July , in Bedford County to Susan Hobson and an unknown
(possibly white) father. In , according to the United States Census,
Susan and her son Pompey (born ) still lived at the home of her
parents. However, by , she had bore several other children, Pompey (),
Claude (), Virginia () and Romeo (birth date unknown) and was residing
in a local boardinghouse employed as domestic. Pearl was never listed
