long-standing reputation and works in cinema and for the small screen,
particularly for telenovelas.A former beauty pageant titleholder, Vera
was crowned Miss Brazil in 1969 by Miss Brazil 1968 and also Miss
Universe 1968, Martha Vasconcellos.Fischer was born in Blumenau, in
Brazil, to Hildegard Berndt, a Brazilian of German descent, and Emil
Fischer, a German who was originally from Karlsruhe,
Baden-Württemberg. Vera was raised Protestant. Emil Fischer, Vera's
father, was a Nazi, and she never had a good relationship with him:
"My father was German, Nazi, and used to force me to read Hitler and
he beat me a lot", she wrote in an autobiography.
