Andrés GarcÃa (born May 24, 1941) is a Mexican born actor from
Acapulco México. He is one of the most popular and well known actors
in Mexico and among Hispanics in the United States. He was a scuba
diving instructor.Born to a Spanish father (from Spain and named
Andrés GarcÃa La Calle) and a Spanish mother (Doña Francisca), also
from Spain. Andrés GarcÃa was born and lived in the Dominican
Republic during his childhood, he later moved to Mexico, soon he would
pursue a career in show business. During the late 1960s and early
1970s, he became a sex symbol in Mexico and the rest of Latin America,
participating in movies, Spanish soap operas and photo-romance novels
(magazine featuring photos of actors who create a storyâ€"a popular
phenomenon across Latin America during the 1970s).In 1984 GarcÃa
participated in Tú o nadie, with LucÃa Mendez and Salvador Pineda.
Tú o nadie became a major hit and helped GarcÃa to receive many
international offers. He accepted an offer to go to Puerto Rico in
1986, where he acted in WAPA-TV soap operas: Amame, with Johanna
Rosaly, and Escándalo, with Iris Chacón and CharytÃn. Escándalo,
however, also flopped and the number of episodes recorded for that
soap opera was cut in half by the television channel.GarcÃa is known
for his portrayals of tough men, what some call the "typical Latin
macho". In 1995, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and he
travelled to Atlanta, Georgia, to seek treatment. He was declared
cured of the cancer.
