André De Shields (born January , ) is an American actor, singer,
dancer, director, and choreographer. His Broadway credits include
Warp!, Ain't Misbehavin', Play On!, The Full Monty, Impressionism, and
the title role in The Wiz.De Shields originated the role of Hermes on
Broadway in the musical Hadestown, winning the Tony Award for Best
Featured Actor in a Musical and the Grammy Award for Best Musical
Theater Album for his performance. He has also appeared on television,
and won an Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement

at Baltimore City College in , then attended Wilmington College, where
he starred in a production of Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the
Sun. He then transferred colleges and earned his B.A. degree in
English literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in .In ,

New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where
